“The Studio” (Apple TV+)
Seth Rogen stars as Matt Remick, the new head of Continental Studios, trying to balance his desire to make worthwhile films with the commercial pressures of the film business. There is plenty to mock about Hollywood—from its wokeness, to its insufferably long films, to executives’ unwillingness to deliver harsh feedback to stars. The new show takes on these themes and more. Unfortunately, what could have been an entertaining romp feels like a bottled-up version of the worst of show business: the series is solipsistic, over-the-top and self-indulgent. ■

"The Studio" is a comedy about people who make movies, made by people who make and love movies, with a target audience of people who also love movies.

Consequence

All of these characters are bound together by a collective obsession with movies on some level — because there is such love for the movies imbued in this series, along with a healthy sense of skepticism.

Every cameo is another brush stroke in the portrait rendered by “The Studio”: A collective middle finger to the system, sent with love.

Mashable

The Studio is everything The Franchise was not. It's as much an ode to movies as it is a frustrated scream about what the cinematic landscape has become, and that tension propels The Studio to full-on comedy gold.

The Verge

The Studio easily could have wound up being undercooked and overstuffed. But unlike some of Apple’s other recent attempts at comedy, The Studio is a knockout — one that never seems interested in pulling its punches as it pokes fun at the current state of the entertainment industry.

The Studio captures the chaotic desperation of a studio head in the era of streaming, austerity, and IP with sharp wit.

Rolling Stone

This is a show made by people who clearly love Hollywood, and who as a result understand exactly how to craft jokes about all the ways the town, and its business, are terrible.
