Outlander

The Outlander series of novels has been reliably standing its readers' hairs on end since the early 1990s, and ardent fans can breathe a sigh of relief: This is a faithful and wonderful adaptation of rich and beloved source material.

Outlander is really, really slow. There is very little urgency in the storytelling — layers of voiceover bits don’t help, even — and therefore Outlander can hardly be described as compelling.

For those who turned 'Outlander' into an international bestseller, seeing the characters brought to life, with Scotland as the bonny backdrop, will doubtless be something of a kick. For everyone else, the resulting series is a bit of a snooze.

I've recently been reading (actually listening to the audio-books) the Outlander series of books having completed 5 so far so when I saw the Starz TV series was coming out I just had to watch it. I must say I loved the Outlander books, but I'm not a fanatic when it comes to translating books to the screen they are very different mediums and thus can take on a different look and feel and that's OK with me.

Outlander is a unique, satisfying adaptation of its source material, brought to life by lush scenery and potent chemistry between its leads.

The actors are what really sell this show. The trio of Caitriona Balfe, Tobias Menzies and Sam Heughan are so good in each of their roles that it carries you through each episode.
