Laverne & Shirley

We need more shows like this clean cut and well enjoyable.

Laverne & Shirley is another good example of a successful spinoff and mid-season replacement. It debuted in January of 1976 and was an instant hit, ranking number 3 in the Nielsen ratings for the 1975-1976 season.

Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams were perfect as the wild Laverne and the prissy Shirley. However, the rest of the cast deserves credit for this excellent slice of life comedy, especially Michael McKeon and David Lander as everyone's favorite losers Lenny and Squiggy.

It looks like it is going to be an enormous hit, and deservedly so.

The appeal of the new show is in the work of Miss Marshall and Miss Williams, who are in the tradition of all the slangy female slobs of comedy back to Jack Benny's Brenda and Cobina.

Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney are hardworking girls, out on their own, putting up with men, work, neighbors, and other life problems.
